FIRST TATTOO “ICE MAN”

Autumn and summer of 1991 in this part of the world turned out to be surprisingly warm, the snow caps covering the peaks of the mountains turned into streams, which rushed into the flowering valleys at the foot of the mountains in a turbulent stream. Under the onslaught of the golden rays of the sun, permafrost receded centimeter by centimeter, exposing ridges and cliffs.

Ice Man

In September, on one of the passes, two climbers at an altitude of 3200 meters above sea level discovered a human body that was partially frozen into ice. Only the back of the head, bare shoulders and part of the back stuck out from ice and meltwater. The corpse lay on his chest, his face was not visible. Near the corpse, two travelers noticed several parts of curled birch bark. Before leaving this place, they photographed it.

A few days later, to establish the identity and cause of death, the body of the deceased was removed from the ice captivity and taken to the morgue of Innsbruck. The results of the pathological and anatomical and forensic examinations were shocking, before the forensic investigators lay a well-preserved body, whose age totaled more than 5 thousand years!

The body was so well preserved in mountainous conditions and low temperatures that its further study even made it possible to determine the menu of the last meal of the deceased. The official statement said, “The man wore weather and leather and fur clothing. His equipment consisted of a kind of wooden backpack, a leather bag on his belt, with stones for kindling fire, a bow, a stone necklace, a knife with a stone blade and an ax. ”

The headlines of scientific journals around the world for many months were devoted to this particular news, photographs and the results of examinations were published both by the tabloid press and world news publications, this find was named after Ezi or “Ice Man”. So The New York Times wrote in a September 26, 1991 issue, “Climbers on a glacier in the Alps found a frozen body of a Bronze Age man, he believed that he died 2 thousand years before the birth of Christ.”

Scientists and experts also found that at the time of his death, Ezi was around 45 years old, height 165 cm, but was dressed in a wicker cloak and leather cloak, pants and loafers are also part of snowshoes. In the course of further study, a large number of tattoos were found on the body of Ezi, their total number being 57 different geometric shapes, starting from single points, lines and crosses. Tattoos were located on the joints of the arms, ribs, back in the lumbar region, a large number were on the legs.

Most experts agreed that their location corresponds to acupuncture points on the human body, and perhaps they were a kind of treatment in those ancient times. In addition, opinions were expressed that they could be applied primarily as symbols reflecting the status and a certain hierarchical place in the community.

Yetzi – an ice man The method by which they were applied to the body of Etzi is still used today, but, as a rule, in tribal cultures scattered in secluded corners of our planet. It comes down to the fact that a person is made a sufficiently deep incision where the pigment is inserted or rubbed in after the wound has healed, part of it remains under the skin. In the case of Ezi, this coloring matter was coal powder.

Undoubtedly, it is Ezi or the “Ice Man” – the first tattooed person known to us on our planet. And we can confidently say that the tattoo has a 5 thousand year history, and to this day for many of us it has a hidden sacred meaning.
